About Allison Smith Design
Allison Smith, inspired by her grandmother, fell in love with design at a young age. She started by scooting around the furniture at home, repeatedly surprising her mother with new arrangements. Later, she studied art and textiles in New York City and launched her career in Southern California.
Settling in the Pacific Northwest, she raised her two children while building a successful interior design business with commercial and residential clients. Now, her daughter Ramona works with her in her residential design business, Allison Smith's Decorate With What You Own™Interiors.
Allison has won a variety of awards, including"Best in Show"; two years in a row at Oregon's prestigious Street of Dreams™, the original luxury new home tour.
Her projects have crossed international borders, including designing a resort community in Beijing, China. Through this travel, she has made extensive international contacts, and has built professional relationships around the world. She is excited to pursue additional projects outside of the United States. She currently lives with her husband, a dog and two cats in a lovely Victorian in Portland, Oregon.
Ramona Ramos' early exposure to interior design started when she began helping her mom, Allison at just 10 years old. After years of doing work for Allison, Ramona started her own career by taking a position with a Portland design center. Throughout her five years there, she worked with the top designers in Portland, and started to hone her knowledge of the industry. Later, she broadened her skills when she began creating floor displays for a large furniture retailer.
She added to her practical experience and natural eye by studying architecture and design in college.
In 2003 she began working full time as a designer for Allison Smith Design. Together, Ramona and Allison created the successful concept, Decorate With What You Own™ Interiors. The high level of referrals created by her work illustrate the confidence and satisfaction her clients have in her.
The Oregonian, the Pacific Northwest's largest newspaper, published a four-page spread covering Allison Smith Design, called "Personal Magic: Use-what-you-have decorators find a unique style for each client's stuff."
The Oregonian also consulted Allison for an article on the process of selecting color, called "Three Pros Decode Color". Color is such an important component to Allison Smith's design process she recently launched her own custom line of colors. Allison Smith Color Season Paint Pallette is available exclusively through Kaleidoscope Paint, Portland's Largest Benjamin Moore dealer.
